Mariam, Aesthetic Practitioner Letchworth Pharmacy

What is an Aesthetics service?

Our aesthetic service at Letchworth covers a wide range of treatment options. Typical aesthetic treatments you might expect include:

  • Anti-wrinkle treatments
  • Fillers
  • Hyperhidrosis treatments
  • Lip filler

๏ปฟThe goal of these treatments is to help patients with issues they may have regarding self-confidence and general well-being. Although many people unjustly believe that aesthetic treatments are purely cosmetic, this is usually untrue. An obvious example is Hyperhidrosis which is an embarrassing condition that results in excessive sweating to such an extent that it can undermine a person’s confidence. Without this treatment, patients have little choice other than having to live with the condition. Our treatment can dramatically improve their quality of life and self-confidence.

However, some people simply wish to alter their appearance and we can surely help! This service is not limited to people with certain specific conditions. If you are unhappy with an aspect of the way you look why not book an appointment with Mariam, our expert practitioner, and we will help you feel more confident in your own skin. Once booked, Mariam who is a highly qualified aesthetics practitioner, will discuss your needs and wants and advise on the best course of action. Additionally, once you receive treatment from us, we will provide post-treatment support and aftercare so that you can rest easy.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Aesthetic treatments aren’t entirely without risk (like everything in life). The risks are small, but you should be aware of them, especially when dealing with unregulated practitioners of unknown provenance. Background risks from unregulated and/or inexperienced practitioners can be a concern. No one wants to risk their health or their looks. Unlike beauty parlours and spas for example, our pharmacy is required to maintain high standards and is highly regulated. We like to believe that our aesthetic service is second to none in our area.

Common side effects can include:

  • Bruising
  • Bleeding
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Discomfort
  • Itching
  • Lumps or bumps (from lip filler)

N.B. These relatively common side effects will usually resolve on their own within a couple of days or weeks.

The more serious side effects are uncommon but can occur in very few cases. Mariam, our qualified aesthetic practitioner, always puts patient safety first. If there is a risk, she will discuss the risk with you before any treatment takes place and may offer alternative treatment options.

How are the risks addressed?

During your consultation, before treatment commences, it is crucial to put any fears you may have to rest before proceeding. Mariam, our Aesthetic Practitioner, is highly qualified and has a wealth of experience, so any fears or concerns you may have, she will be able to address. Allergies are a risk potentially overlooked by unregulated practices. Allergies might cause serious issues, including anaphylaxis. In reputable practices like ours, this will be thoroughly discussed before starting treatment.  Other rare potential side effects of the treatment will be discussed with you during your consultation. Of course risk cannot be completely eliminated but we believe that if you book your appointment with us, your treatment risks will be greatly reduced.

It doesn’t end there because our service provides aftercare and ongoing support post-treatment. We believe that aftercare is a vital component of high-quality aesthetic treatment.

For How long do aesthetic treatments last?

Aesthetic treatments do not take long to achieve the desired results and the results can last a long time. Many months. But they are not permanent. Depending on the type of treatment (and the person) they will eventually wear off. Anti-wrinkle treatment for example can last anywhere from 3 – 6 months. How long the treatment lasts is a combination of the individual, the treatment site and the skill of the practitioner. (Frequent movement around the site of injection will reduce the lasting effects of anti-wrinkle treatment, for example).

The only way to achieve semi-permanence is through repeat appointments and great skin care afterwards. We offer so much more than a one-off treatment; our aftercare support is a vital part of how we provide aesthetic treatments. So, if you are interested in our aesthetic service. our practitioner will be delighted to help you understand the treatment options you are considering and how long-lasting the effects can be. We will help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

What is the recovery time after treatment?

Recovery time following aesthetic treatments varies depending on the treatment and the individual. However, for dermal fillers it is recommended that patients wait 24 – 48 hours before returning to any strenuous activities, this will prevent bruising and allow the fillers to settle into place. Other treatments may have slightly longer recovery times perhaps a couple of weeks. However, Mariam will discuss specific recovery times at your consultation so there is no need to worry.

Conclusion

This service can be an invaluable option for those who want aesthetic treatments. Some people have misconceptions about the service, mistakenly believing it’s purely cosmetic. But that’s not the only reason. Our aesthetics service can help improve self-confidence in people who have skin conditions that may affect their mental health or even those who just want to change an aspect of their appearance. In this blog we’ve also covered potential risk factors from using unregulated aesthetic clinics. Serious risks and side effects are readily mitigated by seeking these treatments only at reputable clinics such as the one at Letchworth Pharmacy. Reassuringly Mariam, our aesthetics practitioner is highly qualified and very experienced.

Our service is comprehensive. Consultations before treatment starts are the best place to address any concerns you may have.  We will do our utmost to ensure that your treatment goes smoothly and without issue. For the uninitiated, the NPA ( National Pharmacy Association ) recently initiated a viral campaign to save local pharmacies. Aiming to raise awareness and provide support for community pharmacies through introducing new services and increasing funding. While the NHS overall has seen massive funding increases in recent years, community pharmacy stands out as having endured a 40% pay cut. At least 1300 community pharmacies have closed their doors for good. Each week on average another ten close. Where does that leave patients? So, in this blog, we will explore what the NPA is about, describe current funding for community pharmacies and explain why it needs to change.
